There are many factors that make this picture a success for me:
The shadow from the woven hat falling on her forehead.
The vibrance and reflective translucence of the only visible eye, I love how you can only see one eye.
The small crinkle in the middle of her brows that shows just a hint of emotion.
There's just one thing about this picture that I wish was different, the hand placement seems a bit awkwardly placed, perhaps unnecessary, since the emotion has been perfectly portrayed by the face.
Other than that I think this is a brilliant capture, and i'm definitely adding this to my favorite. Good job!
I sort of like this picture, sort of don't. I come down in favor of it, though.
First off, I'm not sure if you had a specific vision in mind, but there is nothing truly special about this photo. It looks like film, and I hope that this is film. I really see vision and originality as the same in thing in most cases.
It's originality falls short because women with hats... I've seen it before. I honestly never see anything that ranks high on originality, so don't be upset by that.
Technique I have mixed feelings on. While you composed the photo very well, and her eyes are very, very sharp which is perfect for this photo, I'm not enjoying the washed out blacks of the background. You have pure blacks in the shadows of her hat, but the shadows aren't very rich in the background. But the sharpness and the composition certainly make up for it.
That said, the models' eyes are a true draw into the photo. It's that kind of work that draws a viewer into the shot in my mind. Striking eyes, perfectly in focus. It adds a human element to the photo. Overall, I wish the blacks were richer, but well done otherwise, very well done.
this is ridiculously good mainly because of tonal gradations in the black/white - light - it's just gorgeous and the model's mood/eyes really lend to a mystery - and that goes with the tones (darker with telling/dramatic lighting). intense with a simple subject. very nice.
