I really like this. The overall feeling is really good. As a portrait, though, I wonder if it would be better if the couple was closer to the camera, or if the image was cropped closer to the subject.
As a portrait to keep in your home, yes a crop might be good, but from a photographic point of view I don't feel like that's what's being said. From the dark tone and contrast mixed with the out of focus background and how blank and open it feels you're drawn to the two people, and to me it says they're both sort of out there together on their own with just each other. The countenance they both have though seems a bit gloom/serious, which goes hand in hand with the saturation of the picture, so I'm probably missing the point...
I can see your point and mostly agree. I think if it is not to be a portrait such as to keep in your home, but more of a dark, moody, artistic piece, the lighting on the subject might be a bit too strong. It makes them seem apart from the rest of the scene.
